One of the most prestigious golfing competitions in Europe is back: The OMEGA European Masters. The tournament was founded in 1923 and originally went by the “Swiss Open”, and its venue - the Crans-sur-Sierre Gold Club - situated in Crans-Montana at the heart of the Swiss alps, will host the competition for the 75th time in 2022. This makes it the oldest golf tournament in Europe to be played on the same course every year.
Swiss watch manufacturer OMEGA has been its title sponsor since the year 2001 and further supports the game across the globe, making golf a vital part of the brand’s identity. Consequently, the brand is also central to the golf events at the Olympic Games, by providing the necessary technology, including scoreboards equipped with radar measurement systems and shows a live output of the stroke speed, estimated distance, and height of the stroke among other things.
Over the years, the competition has seen some of the sports’ greatest players such as Spain's Severiano Ballesteros, José Maria Olazabal and Sergio Garcia, Scotland's Colin Montgomerie, South Africa's Ernie Els and Britain's Lee Westwood win the coveted trophy. Ramsus Hojgaard claimed the prize in 2021.
The OMEGA Masters 2022 will welcome some of the brand’s ambassadors such as Guido Migliozzi and Sean Crocker, who both have recorded European Tour wins. The Danish twins Rasmus and Nicolai Hojgaard considered amongst Europe’s next breakout stars, with successful amateur careers behind them, will also be present at the tournament. Moreover, a special group of celebrities, including for example the actors Charlie Day, Ross Butler, and Drew Starkey, will be joining the event, selected among other things for their precision and power. Each one of them will be playing alongside one of OMEGA’s ambassadors.
This year, the renowned competition will be held from the 25th to the 28th of August 2022.
