The Accademia del Lusso, the prestigious Italian institute of higher education in fashion and design, is launching a new edition of its Master in Sustainable Fashion dedicated to the analysis of production and design processes within the green economy

The Accademia del Lusso is an institute specialised in the training of professionals in the world of fashion, design and luxury (L'Accademia del Lusso)

Famous for its Fashion Weeks and Design Weeks, Milan has been home to the Accademia del Lusso since 2005, an institute specialising in training professionals in the world of fashion, design and luxury.

The programmes include the study of marketing, management and communication related to the world of fashion, ensuring a strong link with the fashion job market.

The Accademia presented its new edition of the Master in Sustainable Fashion Design, dedicated to the analysis of production and design processes within the green economy and to the analysis of suitable solutions to make the fashion industry increasingly eco-compatible and sustainable.

Planned over nine months, the Master's programme offers students the opportunity to study the entire production cycle, as well as business models, legislation in the sector, and the various communication strategies.

At the heart of the programme are the ethics of companies, their social and environmental impact, and short supply chains. They will also delve into the field of certifications and labels, which are increasingly essential to guarantee the traceability of products and optimised production in all its aspects, to reduce the ecological impact as much as possible.

Knowing the manufacturing methods of garments from A to Z is essential to develop an eco-compatible approach to production, so all processes will be explored, especially the most innovative ones, through 3D simulations. Particular attention will be paid to fabric finishings and embellishments, which will be derived mainly from upcycling and recycling techniques. The prototypes created by the students will be made using CAD software for three-dimensional projects with the support of 3D printers.

More and more fashion schools in Europe are dedicating courses or masters to ecological fashion. This is the case of the Amsterdam Fashion Academy with its weekly courses focused on the creation of sustainable pieces, or the Condé Nast College of Fashion and Design in London, which offers three-week courses in partnership with the FutureLearn platform, specifically dedicated to sustainability practices within luxury brands.

The Institut Francais de la Mode, meanwhile, includes in its rich programme two-week courses focusing on upcycling or longer sessions of around ten weeks dedicated to the values of sustainability in the fashion industry.
