Gaurav Gupta, who is among the pioneer couturiers from India to present a collection at the Paris Haute Couture Week, has opened his first international showroom, outside of India, in Paris. The designer has chosen a location in the eighth arrondissement, near Grand Palais, to make his brand more accessible to global buyers and stylists, year-round.
The showroom, housed within a 1930 building, spans 300 square metres and is designed by French architect Charles Lemaresquier. It will function as an appointment-only point-of-sale.
Gupta is only the second couturier from India to open a dedicated brand showroom in Paris. The other designer and the first one to do so is Vaishali Shadangule. Her boutique is located in Boulevard Saint-Germain.

A Rare Self-Funded Indian Luxury Brand Going Global

What makes Gaurav Gupta’s international expansion notable is that it is among the very few iconic luxury brands in India that is still entirely self-funded. Gaurav started his label only about 20 years ago. While Gaurav handles the creative vision, his brother, Saurabh Gupta, serves as the CEO. The funding of their physical retail growth and operations is almost entirely out of the house's own balance sheet. Gupta has about 6 brand stores in India.
Gaurav Gupta’s design philosophy centers on wearable architecture that mimics organic, surrealist forms found in nature, such as ocean waves and cosmic spirals. He built his signature style by challenging traditional rules of Indian drapes; replacing soft folds with rigid, swirling structures frozen in mid-air. His breakout signature collection was a pre-zipped, structured hybrid - ‘a traditional sari-drape with a western gown’. His gowns have featured in nearly every big Indian bride’s wedding trousseau since it went viral.
Gupta has created bespoke red-carpet silhouettes and glam concert couture for several A-listers - Beyoncé, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Shakira, Adele, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, as well as Luis Fonsi & Karan Aujla - to name just a few.
How Indian Brands Are Expanding Global Retail Footprint
Most other iconic luxury fashion houses from India have been able to expand beyond India’s borders only after being partly acquired by Indian conglomerates. The Aditya Birla Group and Reliance Brands Limited (RBL), own minority or majority stakes in more than 90% of India’s iconic couture brands including Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Manish Malhotra, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and Anamika Khanna. Most of these brands are decades older than Gupta’s.
The other iconic Indian luxury brands to expand internationally with flagship stores are Sabyasachi, Manish Malhitra and Anita Dongre. Following a majority stake acquisition by Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, Sabyasachi made its monumental global brick-and-mortar debut in New York - with an approx. 1500 square-meter, multi-story flagship store in the West Village in September 2022.
But the first luxury Indian designer to open a flagship store outside India was Anita Dongre. She opened her full-scale, three-story major New York flagship on West Broadway in 2018.
Key Points:
- Gaurav Gupta opens his first international showroom in Paris, a 300-square-metre space in the 8th arrondissement targeting global buyers and stylists. - A rare self-funded expansion in Indian luxury: unlike many major Indian couture houses, the brand has largely financed its retail growth from its own balance sheet. - Paris marks a new step in the brand’s global expansion, following its growing visibility among celebrities including Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Cardi B and Shakira.
Owned by the Zegna Group, Tom Ford Fashion is accelerating its expansion across the U.S. The beginning of October marks the opening of three new stores, in San Diego and Costa Mesa, California, as well as Bal Harbour, Florida, bringing the brand’s store network to 16 locations in the U.S. and 70 worldwide. The strategy comes as Zegna’s sales in the Americas rose 22% in the second quarter of 2026.
Paris Fashion Week kicked off this Monday. For a young fashion label, staging a runway show can cost tens of thousands of euros, while the biggest luxury houses can spend several million euros on just a few minutes of spectacle.
