Paris Fashion Week kicked off this Monday. For a young fashion label, staging a runway show can cost tens of thousands of euros, while the biggest luxury houses can spend several million euros on just a few minutes of spectacle.

The official schedule for the Paris Women’s Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2027 runs from September 28 to October 6. During Fashion Week, venues become valuable assets. Renting a space can cost between €4,000 and €20,000, with prices potentially rising even further due to increased demand. Some venues can see their rates increase by as much as 300% during Fashion Week. And space is far from a minor consideration: a runway show for 600 guests requires around 1,200 square meters, including space for backstage operations.
Young designers often need a minimum budget of €50,000 to produce a professional runway show. At the other end of the spectrum, Reuters reports that productions by major luxury houses can cost as much as €10 million per show.

All the hidden costs

Casting is another major expense. Industry estimates put a model’s fee between €800 and €2,000, depending on the model’s profile, image rights and contractual terms.
On top of that come all the costs the audience never sees: casting directors, stylists, hair and makeup artists, dressers, security staff, lighting, sound, furniture, rehearsals, insurance, transportation and backstage construction.
For young brands, the venue and casting can account for around 60% of the total budget, while production and set design make up another significant portion of the bill.

Why spend so much?

For a fashion house, taking part in Paris Fashion Week is simultaneously an advertising campaign, a public-relations operation and a brand-positioning tool, all condensed into ten to fifteen minutes.
A runway show is therefore far more than a commercial presentation, and its impact extends well beyond the cost of a collection. It can generate media coverage, meetings with buyers, celebrity attendance and social-media content, while pursuing three main objectives: sales, profits and revenue growth.
Key points:

- A runway show costs at least €50,000 for a young fashion label and can reach several million euros for major luxury houses.

- The bill includes the venue, models, casting, set design, sound, lighting, security and backstage operations.

- In just a few minutes, fashion houses are primarily seeking to increase visibility, attract buyers and strengthen their brand image.
