The Mustang has been world's best-selling sports car for the past decade across all brands. Although the United States remains the primary market, Ford targets the European market with its new electric models.

The Ford automaker has just announced that the Mustang, an iconic model of the brand, has been the best-selling and most popular sports car in the world over the last ten years, according to S&P global mobility. Its popularity has been enhanced by its appearances in iconic Hollywood movies, such as "Bullitt" with Steve McQueen and the James Bond series "Thunderball" and "Goldfinger."

Dave Bozeman, vice president of the brand's customer service division, told the press that he is satisfied and proud of the goals achieved for 2022. If the United States remains the primary market for the sports car (78% of global sales), Europe is close behind. Ford is focusing on new electric models to develop the European Union market. Mustang sales have increased by 17% in Germany, 14% in the UK and almost 15% in Switzerland. The electric shift is a real challenge for the future of the company. In the last two years, Ford has sold 150,000 models of the Mustang Mach-E, with a catalog price ranging from 56,000 to 62,000 euros. The new model, the Mustang 2024, represents a big bet for the years to come. Although the Standard Range Propulsion version of the Mustang Mach-E is equipped with a 76 kWh battery offering a range of 440 km, the new Ford Mustang 2024, on sale this summer and presented at the New York Auto Show recently, promises even more advanced technical performance with 500 horsepower.

In 2022, the brand saw its financial results affected by logistics and supply concerns due to market instability. Initially, the company had projected a profit of $11.5 billion, but final earnings for the year came in at $10.4 billion.

Today, the company focuses on its luxury cars and high-end prototypes to boost its appeal and reposition itself in the markets. Recently, the company's workshops presented the Mustang Super Cobra Jet, a 100% electric Mustang prototype with 1800 horsepower. These projects allow the company to experiment with the multiple potentialities of electric power (new transmissions, new batteries) to improve models for the general public with the experience gained.
