This is a sale that could make watchmaking history. On September 28, in London, Rolex will hold the first charitable auction in its history, in partnership with auction house Phillips.

Named “Four Seasons,” this exceptional collection comprises four Daytona inspired by the seasons (Rolex)

Rolex is about to write a new chapter in its own history, as well as in that of watchmaking. On September 28, in London, the manufacture will join forces with Phillips for an unprecedented charitable auction. Four unique Cosmograph Daytona watches will be offered to the highest bidder. It is a first for Rolex, which almost always produces its watches in series and only very rarely confirms that a timepiece is truly unique.

Named “Four Seasons,” this exceptional collection comprises four Daytonas inspired by the seasons. Platinum, yellow gold, white gold and Everose gold are paired with natural stone dials and spectacular gem-setting. Chrysoprase, lepidolite, turquoise, ruby, lapis lazuli and mookaite feature across the four watches, each of which exists as a one-of-a-kind piece.

Federer and DiCaprio, Rolex’s iconic Testimonees

Behind the watches’ horological prestige lies a philanthropic mission. All proceeds from the sale will go to two organizations associated with iconic members of the Rolex family: the Federer Foundation, founded by Roger Federer and dedicated to supporting children’s education in Switzerland and Southern Africa, and Re:wild, an organization focused on protecting and restoring the natural world, co-founded by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Interest in the four watches was already considerable even before the auction was announced. According to Hodinkee, more than 1,000 names were reportedly submitted when Rolex was initially seeking potential buyers for the set, which was then valued at around CHF 4 million.

The question now is what will happen when the hammer falls: could these Daytona set a new benchmark for Rolex collecting? Comparisons with Paul Newman’s legendary Daytona, which sold for nearly $18 million in 2017, are already on everyone’s mind.

Key points:

  • A first for Rolex: the brand will auction four unique watches for the first time, with proceeds going to charity.
  • Four one-of-a-kind Daytona: each features an exclusive combination of precious metal, natural stones and gem-setting.
  • A philanthropic mission: proceeds will benefit the Federer Foundation and Re:wild, co-founded by Leonardo DiCaprio, supporting education and the protection of the planet.
