The iconic Maranello-based company is taking on a new challenge at sea with Hypersail: a 30-meter racing yacht powered by renewable energy and inspired by the Hypercar. This first project by Italian manufacturer Ferrari in the world of sailing will be unveiled in 2026.

The famous prancing horse brand officially announced on Friday 26 June in a press release that it is entering the nautical world with the Hypersail project. The futuristic sailboat, first announced last summer, was unveiled in Maranello, Italy, at a special press event.

The research and development platform dedicated to new technologies for ocean navigation includes a first project aimed at building a yacht that will integrate the most innovative propulsion systems in the world of marine engineering. This 30-meter racing yacht will be entirely self-sufficient in renewable energy (solar, wind, and kinetic) and will be launched in 2026 for its first tests. It represents a major collaborative effort at the crossroads of technological innovation, high performance at sea, and sustainability.

The project for this futuristic speedboat is in the hands of Team Principal Giovanni Soldini and can count on the expertise of the Ferrari team, which is directly involved in the entire design, engineering and testing cycle. The yacht was designed by French designer Guillaume Verdier and represents a series of technical feats: the prototype, a monohull, will stabilize its course on three points of support: a “foil” supported by the tilting keel—a true feat of marine engineering—and two other side foils. Among the features that make this prototype unique is the fact that it is the first boat of this size to be completely energy self-sufficient.

The investment made by the company is likely to be massive, but Ferrari's CFO, Antonio Picca Piccon, said during the presentation of the project at the company's headquarters in Maranello that "the company has decided not to disclose the investment figures for Hypersail. However, we can say that this investment will not have an impact on capital expenditure.“ Ferrari has also decided to keep the location of the shipyard a secret.

Ferrari president John Elkann commented: ”Hypersail is a new challenge that pushes us to exceed our limits and broaden our technological horizons. This project is in line with Ferrari's tradition and is inspired by our Hypercar, which has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times." The search for innovative and original solutions applied to the nautical field has already led Ferrari to file nine technology patents, with plans to file six more by the time the project is completed.

Ferrari's financial situation is looking up. For the first quarter of 2025, the Italian car manufacturer recorded a turnover of €1.8 billion and a 17% increase in profits.
