Dior announces a collaboration with Gran Turismo 7

Dior recently announced its latest collaboration of its creative director for menswear, Kim Jones, with simulated racing video game Gran Turismo 7, creating a collection of “skins”, as well as a customised vintage car.

For Kim Jones “This dialogue between Dior and the world of video games is a renewed invitation to push back the limits of creativity and imagination”. This quote follows Dior’s announcement of its latest collaboration with Gran Turismo 7, a simulated racing video game, at the World Series Showdown in Salzburg, Austria, on the 30th of June 2022.

Gran Turismo 7, which was released last March and has since then established itself as the best simulation in this field, was designed by Polyphony Digital, an internal Japanese first-party video game development studio for PlayStation Studios, and is published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Since its launch, Gran Turismo 7 has offered its fans some high-profile collaborations, for example, the game and the PS5 were offered with the purchase of a Toyota car. At the same time, Kim Jones, who was named designer of the year in 2021, is also well known for his successful collaborations, be it during his time at Louis Vuitton with the Supreme collaboration, or for Dior with artists such as Daniel Arsham, or hip-hop star Travis Scott.

For the Gran Turismo 7 video game, the designer created a Dior racing gear collection, “skins”, consisting of a yellow and grey racing jumpsuit, a matching pair of gloves, reinterpreted “Diorizon” shoes, and a blue and grey helmet, which take up Dior's DNA, including the Dior Oblique motifs, the CD Diamond initials, and the "Christian Dior Atelier Avenue Montaigne” patch. Kim Jones also customised a vintage car, the De Tomaso Mangusta, exalting the distinctive hallmarks of the house.

Additionally, the number “47” has been incorporated into the drivers silhouette and the race car. This detail represents a tribute to the year 1947, the date of Christian Dior’s first trail-blazing fashion show, sealing the success of the brand.

No price is set for these items. In fact, the Dior set will be available for Gran Turismo credits in the GT7 Legendary Cars garage. Credits are earned by winning races.

This new virtual capsule collection will be launched within the video game on the 25th of August 2022, and will be available on the Playstation 4 and the Playstation 5.
