Benjamin Comar, CEO of Piaget: « Luxury is about daring »
Last June, the house of Piaget unveiled its new high jewelry collection in Barcelona. Called Shapes of Extraleganza, this second chapter in a trilogy designed to showcase the shapes, colors, and volumes of Piaget jewelry was staged—by striking contrast—within the brutalist architecture of the Espai Corberó.
The bold choice of Espai Corberó, located in Esplugues de Llobregat just a few kilometers from Barcelona, was a way to create a powerful resonance between the Shapes of Extraleganza high jewelry pieces and the concrete-and-glass elements of this former home of artist Xavier Corberó. This maze of labyrinthine staircases, arches, and mirrors gave the space a retro-futuristic feel and helped elevate the very organic scenography of the high jewelry pieces.

The 51 creations offered a palette of colors and chromatic gradients for which Piaget had already made a name for itself back in the 1960s. The collection, unveiled this year to the press and international clients, drew inspiration from the 1960s and 1970s—a particularly prolific period for the brand—and paid homage to Piaget’s iconic collaborations with artists like Salvador Dalí, Arman, and Warhol.
Feather cuffs, “Toi et Moi” rings, Decor Palace pieces, Calder-inspired table mobiles, and a necklace featuring 1,600 color stones arranged in a polychrome rainbow gradient were among the standout creations. Gemstones such as sodalite, verdite, spessartite, opal, turquoise, chrysocolla, chrysoprase, diamonds, emeralds, spinel, and tourmaline were just some of those featured in the adornments.
This major strategic event for the watch and jewelry brand was, this year, a way to assess whether the efforts made by Benjamin Comar—who took the helm of Piaget in 2021—to revitalize the brand were continuing to pay off. Signaling this renewal were international clients from Africa, Asia, and Europe who had traveled to Barcelona. A sign not lost on Benjamin Comar, whom we met on the opening day of the exhibition, June 17. Our interview.
