When the Automobile Becomes a Work of Art

In Munich, BMW is celebrating its iconic Art Cars collection by bringing all 20 artistic creations together in one place for the first time. Born in 1975 with the BMW 3.0 CSL designed by Alexander Calder for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the project has since attracted some of the biggest names in contemporary art, from Andy Warhol and David Hockney to Roy Lichtenstein, Jenny Holzer, and Julie Mehretu.

The result is a remarkable collection of racing cars transformed into rolling canvases, where colors, lines, and patterns challenge traditional automotive codes. The exhibition is on display at BMW Welt in Munich until August 31, 2026.
