Understanding the universe
The universe and its stars are fascinating subjects as we all try to understand the fundamental principles of our existence and our surroundings. Teaching these big questions is the “institutional mission” of the new astronomy branch of the Shanghai Museum of Science and Technology. This contemporary cultural centre, designed by Ennead Architects, which opened less than a year ago, comprises almost 40,000 square metres of museum space. It is the largest of its kind in the world and includes a planetarium, a 23-metre high solar telescope and an exhibition space.
