Tim Walker Exhibits His World at the National Portrait Gallery

From October 9, 2026 to February 7, 2027, London’s National Portrait Gallery hosts « Tim Walker’s Fairyland: Love and Legends, » the largest exhibition ever devoted to the British photographer. Tim Walker, a leading figure in fashion photography since the 1990s, made his name with a whimsical, theatrical aesthetic featured in Vogue, Vanity Fair, W and i-D, as well as through his portraits of stars such as Lady Gaga, Chappell Roan and Hunter Schafer. For this exhibition, curated by Susanna Brown, Walker steps outside a purely fashion context: over five years, he photographed around fifty activists, artists and figures from British queer culture, from Ian McKellen to Miriam Margolyes and filmmaker Isaac Julien.

The show brings together 250 previously unseen portraits, blending costumes, fantastical sets and personal objects chosen by the sitters themselves, in staging inspired by Renaissance portraiture.
