The taboos of Lunar New Year

Not only does the Lunar New Year come with customs. The people celebrating it also believe that the start of the year, be it good or bad, will affect its whole process. Therefore, some taboos have evolved in the first 15 days of the first lunar month. For the first few days, getting your hair cut or washing your clothes or hair is not recommended, as it washes away/cuts fortune and wealth. In the same line of ideas, eating porridge can bring poverty. Other taboos include crying and breaking dishes, as they are believed to bring bad luck, and swearing may lead to sickness or death.
