The cougar oasis
When the Torres del Paine National Park was created in 1959, the Chilean government prohibited the hunting of puma and guanaco. Since then, their numbers have increased dramatically. Located between the Andes and the Patagonian steppe, the park of more than 200,000 hectares was declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO on 28 April 1978.
