Korea, echoes of rebellion

At the Guggenheim in New York, the exhibition “Only the Young: Experimental Art in Korea, 1960s-1970s” brings together a generation of innovative Korean artists. Featuring some 80 works, this presentation illustrates how these artists transformed art in response to the political and social upheavals of their time in South Korea, against a backdrop of war and globalization. Jung Kang-ja’s “Kiss Me” (1967/2001) is an installation featuring giant pink lips made from common household objects, intended to express women’s autonomous desires in Korea’s conservative, male-centric society. On view until January 7, 2024
