A tiger projected onto the Eiger
To mark the Chinese New Year, which begins on the 1st of February, the Swiss artist Gerry Hofstetter, known for his light art, has illuminated the mythical north face of the Eiger with a giant tiger. The light projection is 5.3 km long and over 2 km high, the equivalent of about a thousand football pitches. The artist wants to encourage the Swiss athletes and all other sportsmen and women at the Olympic Games in Beijing, which began on Friday the 4th of February. This is not the first time that Hofstetter has symbolised his attachment to Switzerland. In March 2020, he lit up the Matterhorn in a gesture of solidarity during the Covid crisis.
