Hormuz Island

A rainbow village

The island of Ormuz, located between the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea, has been decorated with an architectural work inspired by its surreal and exceptional topography. Indeed, a village composed of a multitude of multicoloured domes, referring to the colourful landscapes of this volcanic island of 42km2, has been designed. These domes, which include accommodation and cultural spaces, were built using a low-cost technique consisting of stacking bags filled with earth, sand or stone held together by wires. This technique, called “earthbag”, was developed by the Iranian architect Nader Khalili.
